Tussie Mussie Bouquet
An event learning to make a tussy mussy!
“Tussy mussy” isn’t just fun to say! A tussy mussy is a fantastic beginner hand tied bouquet and at Our Galentine’s Day event held at Hidden Hill Venue in Morganton, NC, a group of 15 were taught how to make their own tussy mussy.
What exactly is a tussy mussy?
According to the Floral institute, this cutie of a bouquet dates back all the way to the Victorian era where it was to be worn as a fashion accessory. Tussy mussy’s were usually gifted to someone and each flower had a special meaning. For example, our workshop gals had carnations and roses which each mean love, beauty and courage.
Back in the victorian days of tussy mussys the wealthy would usually have these fashion accessories in fancy sterling silver holders. But for our guests, we made them with craft paper from Hobby Lobby (it’s practically the same, right?) Our ladies enjoyed designing their very own with the guidance of Rachel & Sarah. Step by step, they were able to understand and learn how to place each stem correctly in their hand tied arrangement.
Did you know that tussy mussys have a place in a wedding? That’s right! We use them for alternatives for corsages. Mothers of the bride and groom, grandmothers, etc are able to enjoy a unique and timeless piece in their loved ones wedding. It’s a perfect way to add something different to your wedding but not take away from the bride or the ceremony as a whole.
